Our Analysis

If you're a cost-first founder choosing between the UAE's two most-marketed budget zones, this is a genuinely close call. RAKEZ's AED 6,000 Biz Starter is less than half IFZA's AED 12,900 zero-visa package, and the gap holds with a visa attached — RAKEZ's all-in SME bundle is AED 14,320 against IFZA's AED 28,790, a difference of more than AED 14,000 in Year 1. When we priced both, RAKEZ also came out ahead on speed: visas in roughly 5 business days versus IFZA's 3-to-4-week pipeline.

What IFZA sells, and RAKEZ can't, is the address. 'Dubai' on a trade license still reassures international clients and banking officers in a way 'Ras Al Khaimah' doesn't, and that perception is most of what the AED 6,900 premium buys. Both rate 'Moderate' for banking, but here the data actually favours RAKEZ on paper — it lists six formal partners (ADIB, RAKBANK, NBF, Mashreq, Wio, Emirates NBD) against IFZA's two. RAKEZ also offers a Dual License for simultaneous free zone and mainland RAK operations, which IFZA structurally cannot.

Neither is friction-free. RAKEZ mandates audited accounts for every company with a AED 2,500 late fine, and its multi-zone structure confuses first-timers; IFZA sells only through appointed agents (so the AED 12,900 sticker can balloon with add-ons) and only introduced tiered audit requirements in late 2025. Our read: for a manufacturer, trader or anyone optimising pure cost and flexibility, RAKEZ is hard to beat. For a consultant or agency whose clients judge them by a Dubai postcode, IFZA earns the premium.
